We thought Polygonal Creations would be the best name for our tilling project since our focus was on what we learned about triangles and quadrilaterals. We formed triangles from cutting along the diagonals of a square. The diagonals of a square bisect each other which means they cut each other in half. They are also perpendicular to each other so they form 90 degree angles. This gave us right triangles. We also used rectangles. The diagonals of a rectangle are congruent and bisect each other, but unlike the square, they do not form perpendicular lines at the point of intersection. We tried to make a regular octagon in the center. An octagon has eight sides and angles. To find the number of degrees in the octagon, you can find out how many triangles there are and multiply the number of triangles by 180. Start by drawing diagonals from any one vertex. The sum of the exterior angles always add to 360 degrees. Polygons can create beautiful designs.
